Founded in 1945 by the late Bishop Trevor Huddleston, ACFS is a prominent non-profit organization in South Africa dedicated to addressing poverty and supporting vulnerable communities. What began with simple soup kitchens for hungry children in Alexandra and Soweto has evolved into a comprehensive network of community support. Over the decades, ACFS has expanded its reach significantly, establishing nine community centers in some of the most affected areas, including Soweto, Alexandra, Kagiso, Tsakane, and Bothaville. These centers are pivotal in providing daily meals and essential support to thousands of children and families. In addition to these feeding programs, ACFS operates a bakery in Jabavu, producing fresh bread and rolls for local distribution.

Recognizing that handouts alone are insufficient to tackle the root causes of poverty, ACFS has implemented a range of programs aimed at fostering long-term self-sufficiency. These include health education, skills development, and the establishment of communal vegetable gardens, which encourage families to cultivate their own produce and gain valuable agricultural skills.The organization also focuses on youth empowerment through educational enrichment programs and health and nutrition initiatives. By integrating emergency response efforts and youth economic empowerment into their portfolio, ACFS addresses both immediate and long-term needs within the communities they serve.With a dedicated team and strong community partnerships, ACFS continues to uphold its mission of improving lives through practical support and education, working tirelessly to foster economic independence and well-being among South Africa's most vulnerable populations.
